CD-R is the noisey future of russian youth. With their ep "Concentration" the listener is submerged in a nocturnal corridor of machine hum with the only respite being a blast of radio static and lofi noise played at over saturated levels. Then CD-R goes beneath audible levels to further destroy your subconscious mind. A pleasant operation is guaranteed. "Project CD-R started in December 2002(Moscow) by Nikita Golyshev and Stas Bobkin. The first unofficial self-released album was...

BLUE SAUSAGE INFANT is the work of Chester Hawkins of Washington DC. The sound of BSI lives somewhere in the space between noise and psychedelia, using a mixture of electronics, toys, and conventional instruments. The result stumbles between delicate ambience, krautrock-flavored trance music, and harsh brutalism. BSI has performed and recorded since 1988, including collaborations with Haunted Toilet, Lida Husik, New Carrollton, Delta of Venus, Changes to Blind, and Stolen Government Binder...

Museum of Frenzy was recorded at various museums of the Smithsonian Institution using three cheap low quality portable tape recorders-one cheap "boombox" and 2 dictaphones. Zan and Jeff each recorded the environment. when they each had thirty minutes they switched tapes, and played back what was recorded and that was re-recorded onto one of the tapedecks. they walked around and played the tapes, waved them around, played with the volume, cover the speakers with their hands, changed...

This was compilation was part of a projected series of thematic country compilations. "Ice" features music by Catharsist, Esruk, and Cultic Script. Tracks call to mind frozen barren landscapes inhabited by strange polar creatures. Originally released on cassette by Watergate Tapes in 1988.

soft pieces is the artistic moniker of Washington DC area resident Zach Mason. In 1990, at the age of 13, Zach began making music with a bass guitar, cassette tapes, and assorted electronics, performing throughout the DC area and self-releasing numerous recordings in the years since. Synths and computers slowly moved from accessories to central musical tools, allowing for new sounds and techniques. Using a digital synthesizer, a small mixer patched to allow feedback, and a reverb/delay pedal,...

Prague based duo Radio Royal uses all the kinds of waste sound (audio feedback, hiss, hum, scratched vinyls) and found audio (old cassetes, magnetic tape and vinyls) and turns them into the specific mixture of noise and easy listening. Quite contemporary sound is all created by digging into old media and using some old fashion equipment like tape echos and cheap reverb. Critikal is comprised of Andrey Kiritchenko (nexsound.org), Jonas Lindgren (glitchpunkyouth.com), and Jeff Surak (zeromoon.com). The trio presents 8 tracks of electro-acoustic drones akin to the more surreal work of Nurse With Wound. This album was recorded in 2002.

This album is a live, unedited recording of an improvised session at the Deep Listening Institute in Kingston, NY on September 21, 2011. For this duo project, the musicians utilize acoustic materials and capture/transform one another's sound in an endless loop. Both use digital means; Van Nort tends to favor sculpting/stretching from small sound fragments, while Margolis often likes to make collages out of larger sound segments.

Gameboydrice is a project of Eugene Voronovsky, also known for his work as Cisfinitum. "Selden" is the soundtrack for a film of the same name, which is based on the Hound of Baskervilles by Conan Doyle. The music has roots in old silent film scores, yet with some modern experimental twists. Exotica, plunderphonics, and sense of the absurd prevail throughout. http://www.myspace.com/cisfinitum

Live performance recorded March 8, 1988 in Arlington, Virginia at the Lee Community Center. Both bands were billed to play separately but decided to play simultaneously instead. Opening were 2 teenage punk bands, as the show was a benefit for the community center, whereas both NC and moreso SGBC were older than the 300 punk kids in attendance, and their usual old long hair psycho fans had a difficult time getting in. After the first 10 minutes of the performance most of the crowd left leaving...

Insect Factory is music from Silver Spring, MD musician Jeff Barsky. Insect Factory focuses on texture and mood, building layers of dense sounds that slowly evolve into hypnotic and atmospheric drones. Since the 90's, Barsky has continuously played in bands and improvisational collectives, and has performed frequently on the east coast of the U.S., and also in Canada, throughout Europe, and Japan. His first proper release, Air Traffic Control Sleep, was released on Insectfields in the late...

This music did not really begin as an hommage to Eliane Radigue, but I did come to think of it in relation to her work with slowly changing timbres, which I love, and I ended up calling it by her name. My recordings are drone textures made up of many oscillators continuously detuned according to changing ambient light levels. A single photocell placed outside brings into play the movement of isolated clouds passing across a clear blue sky. Eliane was created using the SuperCollider programming...
